About Move with Zen:

Move with Zen is a global movement initiative born out of my own personal journey and deep connection to dance. Dance has saved me, grounded me, and reconnected me to my true self time and time again. I want to offer this powerful form of self-expression as a gift to others who may be feeling lost, disconnected, or looking for a way to tap into their truest form of themselves. MOVE with ZEN is absolutely FREE of Cost! It’s an open invitation to move through all the emotions that life has to offer, using our bodies to find release, joy, and healing. Move with Zen is not a form of ecstatic dance, but rather a movement practice rooted in intention, blending accessible choreography that is inspired by the African Diaspora: including Afrobeats, traditional West African, House, and other genres that leads to free-flowing self-expression. The beauty of Move with Zen lies in the fact that while we learn choreography, the focus isn’t on getting the steps perfect—it’s about how you move through them, connect with your body, and express yourself. The choreography serves as a guide to create structure and facilitate connection, but the steps themselves are secondary to the greater experience of letting go and embracing what feels authentic in the moment.

Each class begins with accessible, easy-to-follow movements that flow into something more organic, allowing the class to evolve into a unified celebration of personal expression. Think of it as a "dance party for the soul," where everyone is encouraged to take what they need and leave what they don’t. This resonates deeply with one of my favorite quotes by Bridget Anderson, a yoga instructor I admire: “Take what you want and leave what you don’t.” This simple yet powerful message encourages everyone to honor their own experience and be true to themselves in the moment.

Learning choreography, even at a basic level, is beneficial because it engages the brain, increases blood flow, and activates cognitive function. It's not about perfection but about the journey of moving together and creating a sense of collective energy and individual freedom. The beauty of Move with Zen is that it's accessible to all, regardless of experience. It's a space where beginners can feel confident and experienced dancers can tap into deeper self-expression.
